Harry V. Mardigian, 81

Brunswick- Harry V. Mardigian left his good life, March 21, 2006, after a brief illness, at age 81, leaving behind many friends.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Vahan Mardigian and Rose (Kalemkarian) Mardigian and had resided the past 45 years in the Town of Brunswick. Educated in the Troy school system, he enlisted as an Aviation Cadet in the Army Air Force, and was commissioned an officer at the age of 19, as a navigator. He was selected to attend a series of radar schools and became the radar/navigator on B-29s.

Following his time in the Service, he entered into the retail food business and built the RKO Supermarket in Wynantskill. After 12 years, he made a decision to get into the field of finance, became a Registered Representative in 1969 and progressed to the office of Vice President of Investments with the firm of Salomon Smith Barney, with his office in Albany. He later served as a financial consultant for 21st Century Capital Management in Colonie until his retirement last spring.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Wynantskill, where he was proud of having 37 years of perfect attendance. He served as President of that Club and went on to become the Lieutenant Governor of the Van Rensselaer Division. He was active in his church, was chairman of the Building Committee during the construction of the Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church on Spring Avenue, served several offices, including Chairman of the Board during his 23 years of active service. He was a member of the Troy Club and the Country Club of Troy. An avid New York Yankee fan, he wrote a poem for George Steinbrenner, which was autographed and returned to him.

He was married to Elsie Ekmalian Mardigian for 59 years. Together, they had the pleasure of many years of common interests, including many winters in Aruba. They have one daughter, Sandra Mardigian Seplowe (Stephen); a grandson, Alexander Seplowe; a sister, Mary Arakelian (Varkis) of Whitinsville, Mass and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Fannie Testo and a brother, Joseph Mardigian.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at the Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church 101 Spring Avenue Troy.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday from 3-8 PM.
