Hal (Henry) A. Bayly

Poestenkill - Hal (Henry) A. Bayly died Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center after a long illness.

Born November 13, 1931, he was a lifelong resident of Poestenkill. A decorated Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was wounded in action in 1952 at the age of 20 and confined to a wheel chair for 59 years as a result of his injuries.

Hal is survived by his wife of 44 years, 'Mela' Hermelinda Sanchez of Puerto de San Blas, Mexico and Poestenkill.

He was son of the late George F. And Agnes Clickner Bayly, brother of George H. 'Tex' Bayly of Poestenkill, Laurel B. Scott, Agnes B. Salerno and Norma B. Dixon. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas L. Bayly. Hal was an inspiration to his 27 nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

He lived a quiet life in Mexico and Poestenkill and never called attention to his disability. He enjoyed participating in normal activities and will be long remembered as a happy and proud person devoted to his wife and family and friends in the United States and Mexico. Poestenkill was a special place to Hal.

Special thanks to the Samuel Stratton VA Hospital in Albany for the outstanding care Hal received and to the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff of the intensive care unit and Heros' Way on the 9th floor. The devotion and gentle care given Hal will never be forgotten. God Bless Them All. Semper Fidelis.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 8:45 AM at the funeral home and at 9:30 AM at St. Henry's Church Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Provost, Pastor.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery Wynantskill.
