Grace (Eiseman) Filley

Troy - Grace Eiseman Filley, 93, died January 23, 2018, at her residence after a short illness.

Grace was a lifelong resident of Troy and a graduate of Emma Willard School where she excelled in sports.  After leaving Emma Willard, she was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal during WWII. After the war, she worked at RPI for several years as the receptionist for President Houston and Dr. Baker.

Mrs. Filley was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Vanderheyden Hall and a fund raiser for the American Cancer Association.  She was an active downhill skier and a member of the Tri-City Racquet Club where she loved to play tennis. Grace was a charter member for 27 years and permanent treasurer of the Tamarac Ski Club. She was a lifetime member of the Country Club of Troy where she enjoyed golf, tennis, swimming and many social functions. She will always be remembered as a warm and friendly person.

Grace is survived by her husband, Derrick Filley; her daughter, Nancy and husband Steve of Troy; her grandson Derrick and his wife Conna of Boston.

Grace enjoyed her garden, her home and the beautiful view overlooking the Hudson Valley, the Helderberg Hills, and the Catskill Mountains and beyond. She enjoyed sailing on Lake George and Cape Cod. She joined the Junior League of Troy becoming one of the youngest ever to be accepted and she was an active volunteer for her entire term serving on many projects. The greatest joy she had was her family and watching her grandson play in local, state, and national tennis tournaments.

Grace, with her husband Derrick, enjoyed scenic rides over the back roads through Grafton, Williamstown, and the Berkshires from Lenox to Manchester, enjoying the various seasons and their unique beauty.

Grace was the daughter of the late Sarah Clifford and Norman William Eiseman, who started, owned and operated the Norman W. Eiseman and Co., an investment securities office for 34years until in his death in 1970. 

Services are private at the convenience of the family.  Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.
