Gladys M. Reger, 92

North Greenbush - Gladys M. Reger, age 92, peacefully entered the Eternal Garden on June 27, 2011. Born in Vandalia, Missouri as the fifth child of ten children, Gladys was the daughter of the late Winnie Henderson Garnett and Downing C. Garnett. Her husband Charles Reger, whom she married in 1948, passed away in 1975. Survived by her son, C. Michael Reger of DeFreestville; beloved granddaughter, Amy Leigh Reger of Stamford Connecticutp; sisters, Lucille Dunn, Maxine Rickel and Helen (Tom) Fitzgerald; brothers, John (Peggy) Garnett and Robert (Mary) Garnett; sister-in-law, Doris and Sidney Vogel; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends Nina Valenti and Fran Valenti. Predeceasing Gladys were her sisters, Beulah Palmer and Thelma Schulz; brothers, Harold Garnett and Donald Garnett; and niece, Sandra Nevin.

During World War II, Gladys was especially proud of her hospital nursing career in St. Louis, Missouri, where she met Charlie, who was then serving in the Army Air Corp stationed at Scott Field, Illinois. Gladys resided on Washington Park in Troy for more than 62 years, enjoying many summer days gardening, sharing coffee and close friendship with Nina Valenti. Her passions over the years included granddaughter Amy, baking and cooking for family and friends, decorating, all of nature in her garden, and watching sunsets through her bright blue eyes.

While residing at the Van Rensselaer Manor for the past seven months, Gladys received compassionate care by Manor staff, and the skilled care and comfort of Community Hospice. Many, so many, of the Manor staff were tireless in their efforts, and kept Mom in their tender care. Special thanks to Hospice volunteers Rosemary Gier and Bob McGrath for their many visits and hours of comfort for Gladys, Hospice Nurse Deborah Fleischner for her care and support, and Hospice Chaplain Andrew Russ for his spiritual care and guidance. Angels do indeed walk the face of the Earth. Love, warmth and support by the Valenti family for many decades have been so special. The professional skill and insight of Dr. Michael Wolff in caring for Gladys over several years, and of Dr. Andrew Gunther during her recent illness have been sincerely appreciated by Gladys' son Mike.

A Service in Memory of Gladys will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel in Oakwood Cemetery, Oakwood Avenue in Troy , followed by interment in the Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
