George W. Petit , 81

North Greenbush George W. Petit , 81 ,of Meadow Drive, died Sunday, February 20, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a long illness.

Born in Chatham, he was the son of the late Frank Petit and Jessica (Bunk) Petit and husband for 57 years of Cecile Skop Petit.

He was raised in Chatham, resided in the capital district area for most of his life.

Mr. Petit was a union mason for several years for Bricklayers and Allied Craftsworkers Local Union 2.

He was a member Wynantskill American Legion, was once a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in South Troy and was an Army veteran of World War II serving as an airplane mechanic.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Michelle Petit of Annandale, VA, Georgeane Thomas of Troy and Leslie Bramah of Troy; two sons, William Petit of Erie, PA and Allan J. Petit of Troy; a sister, Genevieve Lundy of Eagle Mills; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Mark, Devin, Kyle, Cassie, Gregory, Sarah and Elizabeth; four great grandchildren, Aidan, Conor, Liam and Patrick and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Petit and a sister, Dora Sheldon.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at a time to be anounced at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at St. Michael the Archangel Church Williams Road North Greenbush where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Interment Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Petit to the March of Dimes Birth Defects of Northeastern New York 80 Wolf Road Albany, NY 12205 or the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Road Loudonville, NY 12211.
