George M. Derbyshire, 61

Menands - George M. Derbyshire, 61, of Dutch Village Apts. died Monday, January 19, 2009, at St. Peter's Hospice Inn in Albany after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late George C. Derbyshire and Janet Rouse Derbyshire. He was raised in Albany and resided in North Greenbush, Schoharie, Ravena and in Menands for the past 5 years. George was a graduate of Albany High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College.

George worked for the telephone company for many years, AT&T, Verizon and Lucent, Technologies, retiring 8 years ago.

He earned his FCC license, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, attended Delmar United Methodist Church and loved carpentry, having built several houses. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his six children, Rachel (John) Parker of VA, Matthew Derbyshire of VA, George M. Derbyshire of Troy, Rose (William Jojo) Derbyshire of Grafton, Elizabeth R. Derbyshire of Wynantskill and Emily R. Derbyshire of Berkeley, CA; a sister, Sherry L. (David) Messier of Salem; his grandchildren, Autumn and Elijah Parker, Ethan Jojo and Ella and Taylor Derbyshire and niece and nephews, Nathaniel Webb, Elissa and Christian Webb. He was predeceased by a sister, Melissa Ellen Derbyshire.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. Michael Crandall, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 PM

Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery Menands.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of George M. Derbyshire to the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Road Loudonville, NY 12211.
