George J. Galuski, 93

Troy - George J. Galuski, 93, of Troy passed away peacefully on February 24, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospice surrounded by his loving family. It was the 10 year anniversary of his wife Alma's passing.

Born in Troy on December 28, 1918, he was the son of the late Anthony and Eva Galuski. He grew up in South Troy and resided in Troy his entire life.

As a young man, George played semi-pro baseball pitching for the South End Senators and the South Troy Pals. His love of sports was passed on to his 5 sons. He coached baseball at Spring Little League and over the years could often be seen at a baseball or football field or in a gym watching his sons, and then grandchildren play.

George was a wonderful provider for his family and had an amazing work ethic. He worked over 30 years as the service manager for Bumstead Chevrolet in Troy up until their closing in 1983. Then to "stay busy" as he put it, he took a job as a security guard for several years. His final job took him back to the ball field where he worked for the Tri-City Valley Cats until his retirement at the age of 90.

George's pleasures were simple and his faith was strong. He was a dedicated parishioner of Sacred Heart parish, and when he could no longer get to church, he enjoyed his weekly visits from his good friend, Father James Vaughan. He loved spending time with his family and had fond memories spending summers at their camp in the country. George's smiling face and sense of humor were cherished by all who knew him. He was a kind and generous man.

George was pre-deceased by his wife Alma Bridegroom Galuski to whom he was married for 53 years before her passing in 2002. In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by three brothers; Mickey, Tony and Skip and a sister, Ann. He leaves behind his five devoted sons; Stephen (Patty), Greg (Diane), Alan (Angelika), Mark (Marci) and Gary (Sarah). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren Bryan (Julie), Michael (Jen), Kristin (Erik), Christopher and Colin Galuski: Nicole Riley, David (Tara), Nicholas, Mark Anthony and Matthew Galuski; Chris (Cristen), Frankie, Tony (Cailyn), Jamie (Krista) and AJ (Rebecca) Locci; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Dr. Santos and Dr. Roglieri, the caring nurses at St. Mary's hospital 3rd floor and the Hospice Team on the 5th floor. Their dedication and compassion made his final days comfortable and peaceful. Also thanks to friend Karen George for her kindness and a very special thanks to "Dorsey" , the best neighbor ever, who visited George every day without fail bringing him his much loved lottery scratch-off tickets.

The family will welcome friends during calling hours at Sacred Heart Church on Pawling Ave. in Troy from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday March 1st.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Friday March 2 at 10:30 AM.

Kindly omit flowers. Those who wish to honor George's memory may contribute to the Father Vaughan - Sr. Anne Memorial Fund 310 Spring Avenue Troy, NY 12180.
