I would like the family to know that he was one of the best teachers I ever had. I took Biology and Advanced Biology. We enjoyed him so much that we even visited his classroom after school. He was only 7 years older than my class and his death makes me think about how short life can be.

To the family and his partner:
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Backaus was an excellent teacher. I was privileged to have him for a home room teacher and a biology teacher. May hope is the happy memories keep him alive in your hearts.

Thankful to have known him,
Kerry Warner

I worked with George at Brittonkill for many years.I enjoyed the many trips we made with the teachers to New York City organized by your dad ! He was a kind person and treated all with respect and sincere caring. He will be missed! I am praying for you that God will comfort you and give you peace! Sincerely Rita Colvin
