Fred G. Boettger

November 17, 1927 ~ July 28, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Troy - Fred G. Boettger, 89, of Pinewoods Avenue Troy died suddenly July 28, 2017 at his residence.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late August P. Boettger and Anna M. Pfitz Boettger and husband for 50 years of the late Thelma M. Keeler Boettger. He had resided in Troy all his life and was a graduate of Troy Schools. He also earned degrees from NY State Vocational Teachers Training Program, a BS from Oswego State University in Vocational Education, and a  M.S. from Oswego State in Administration Vocational Education. 

Fred was employed at GE Turbine Engineering Department, Adirondack Foundries Inc. Engineering Department, Troy High School as a drafting teacher, and more recently as the Troy City School District as Director of Vocational  Education retiring 1983.  

He was a communicant of the Church of Ascension Troy for over 70 years, serving as a Jr. Warden and supervisor and clerk of the works for the remodeling of the undercroft.  He was member and past president of the Board of Directors of the Episcopal Church Home for 35 years. He was a member of  NYS Teachers Vocational Teachers Association, Industrial Arts Association, Rotary Club of Troy serving Rotary District 7190 , the Youth Exchange Committee for 20 years, and the Housed Foreign Exchange for 15 or more years. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. Fred was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, gardening and woodworking. He enjoyed reading history, travel and outdoor magazines. In his retirement he and Thelma attended many Elder Hostels to keep their bodies and minds active.  He was a veteran of World War II in the Aviation Engineers 802nd stationed in Okinawa. 

Survivors include two nieces, Holly (James) Duncan, Glenville and Enid (George) Drew, Poestenkill and a nephew, Jay Keeler.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 10AM with Rev. Martin  Wendell, officiating.

Interment will be in  Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.
