Francis P. Berlin, 78

Wynantskill - Francis P. Berlin, 78, of Hidley Road died Monday, April 25, 2011, at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehab Center Albany after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Francis Lewis Berlin and Patricia Catherine McBride Berlin and husband of the late Ruth H. Shorkey Berlin. He was raised in Watervliet, resided in Wynantskill for 48 years and a attended St. Brigid's School and Watervliet High School.

Frank was a route driver for Millbrook Bread and later Strohman Bread in Glens Falls for 35 years retiring in 1996.

He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church and a member of the Colonie Lodge of Elks, the Troy Rod and Gun Club, the Wynantskill American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Frank enjoyed doing landscaping at Evergreen Cemetery in Wynantskill and running cars for G&J Auto in Wynantskill and mostly--he loved being a Grandpa. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he earned the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star and two Service Medals.

Survivors include five daughters: Theresa R. (Brian) Bonner, Schodack, Linda J. (Randy) Hughes, Wynantskill, Carol A. (Joseph) Coluccio, Wynantskill, Donna M. Berlin, Troy, and Paula M. St. Germain, Averill Park; a son, James F. (Georgette) Berlin, Athens, NY. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Eric, Joshua, Michael, Ian Sam, Alex, Patrick, and Emily; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John H. Berlin.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday, from 3-5 and 7-9 PM.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 9:00 AM at the funeral home and at 9:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery Watervliet.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of the St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Francis Berlin to the Disabled American Veteran's 761 Third Avenue Troy, NY 12182.
