Flora Sunukjian Malkonian, 91

Troy Flora Sunukjian Malkonian, 91, of East Avenue, died Saturday at Samaritan Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Marash, Turkey she was daughter of the late Movses and Nouritza Sanjian Sunukjian and wife of the late Paul Malkonian Sr. They were married in 1935. She came to the United States to Boston in 1912 and shortly after relocated to the Troy area residing on Park View Court and later on Peoples Avenue before moving to East Avenue and attended Troy Public Schools 17 and 14.

Mrs. Malkonian worked at Brown and King and later at Cluett, Peabody & Company in Troy. In her lifetime she experienced, gas lamps to the internet, she was always ready to try or see something new and certainly has grown with the times. She had her golden rule, 'Always be good to others, and treat them as you would like to be treated'.

With a life filled with love, family, service, and the preparation and enjoyment of food, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always making her family her priority. She was an active, founding member of Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church in Troy which honored her twice for her work, and the Ladies Guild of the church. Mrs. Malkonian was active in the Troy Masonic Temple , in the Apollo Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and the Masonic Widows of Apollo Lodge.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Vosbikian of NJ; her son, Paul Malkonian Jr. of Troy; her daughter-in-law, Laura Malkonian of Troy; a brother, Avedis Sunukjian of Melrose; four grandchildren, Robert Malkonian of Latham and Ani, Aren and Andrea Vosbikian all of NJ and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Samuel Sunukjian and a sister Grace Ishkanian.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:30am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy and at 11:00am from Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church Spring Avenue Troy.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-8pm. Interment Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
