Everett C. 'Slim' Wheeler, 81

Poestenkill Everett C. 'Slim' Wheeler, 81, of White Church Road, died Thursday at Samaritan Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Hillsdale, NY he was son of the late Martin B. and Bertha Evarts Wheeler and husband for 55 years of Irene C. Miller Wheeler. He was raised in Rensselaer and resided in Poestenkill for 54 years and attended Rensselaer High School.

Mr. Wheeler was a machinist for Al-Tech Specialty Steel in Watervliet for 20 years and prior to that worked for Huyck Mills in the winding room.

He was a member of the Poestenkill Fire Company and Poestenkill Evangelical Lutheran Church and an Army veteran of World War II serving in the 339th Polar Bear Division in Italy and in North Africa.

Survivors in addition to his wife include several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Harold Wheeler and a sister Madeline J. Wheeler.

Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake.
