Everett E. Eckerson, 72

Poestenkill - Everett E. Eckerson, 72, of Franklin Street died Thursday, December 9, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Glens Falls, he was son of the late Elmer Eckerson and Cassie Florence Audette Eckerson and husband of Flo Geppner Eckerson. He was born and raised in Glens Falls, resided in Myrtle Beach, SC for many years and in Poestenkill for the past 6 months and was a graduate of Glens Falls High School.

Mr. Eckerson was employed at Kennedy Space Center for 13 years as a communications specialistand class instructor for the astronauts.

He was a member of the VFW and Thee Baptist Church of Conway, SC. He served in the Army, Co C 365^th Engineers Battalion for 18 years and served as a teacher, drill sargeant and recruiter.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons Edward (Sherry) Eckerson, Lincolnton, NC and Gary (Bill) Eckerson, West Palm Beach, FL; a daughter, Valene (Edmund C. Jr.) Miller, Poestenkill, NY; a sister, Karen (Louie) VanDenburg, Tempe, AZ; his grandchildren, Ed Eckerson Jr., Tia VanAvery, Elissa Kouray, Eric and William Eckerson and Jenna and Ethan Miller and several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Lee Eckerson.

A memorial service will be held in Myrtle Beach in the spring.
