Elsie Landau Hart Finkelstein

Louisville, KY. - Elsie Landau Hart Finkelstein of Hobbs Station Road, Louisville, KY died on January 21, 2013 after a short illness.

Born in Troy, NY on April 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ludwig Landau and Marie Schmidt Landau and the wife of the late Alfred P. Finkelstein. She graduated from Troy High School in the class of 1945. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the New York State College for Teachers, now SUNY Albany and later her Masters degree. Elsie did additional post graduate work toward her PhD. After holding various teaching positions, she was employed by the New York State Department of Education, retiring in 1983 as Chief of the Bureau for Special Program Review, Division of Development Support Services.

She was an active Ham Radio Operator, obtaining an "Extra" certification with call sign KA2CLX. After moving to Spartanburg, SC in 1984 she became a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church there and enjoyed life with her beloved Great Danes and Greyhounds.

She is survived by a son, Grant L. Hart (Patricia) of Louisville, KY and two daughters, Martha Vadney (Bill) of Albany, NY and Deborah Finkelstein. Also survived by three grandchildren, Amanda Vadney Rizzo (Tim), Nick Vadney and Melissa Vadney.

Visitation will be held at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue in Troy on Thursday May 16th from 5-8pm. Those wishing to attend the graveside service may meet at the funeral home Friday at 10:30am or at Memory Gardens in Colonie at 10:50am.

The family requests no flowers.
