Elizabeth 'Betty' A. (Hengsterman) Simmons

BENNINGTON, VT - Elizabeth 'Betty' A. Hengsterman Simmons, 94, formerly of Wynantskill, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at South Western Vermont  Medical Center,  Bennington, VT after a short illness.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Christopher Hengsterman and Emma  Roberts Hengsterman and wife of the late Samuel W. Simmons.  Betty was a lifelong resident of Wynantskill and a graduate of Troy High School and Mildred Elley.

She was employed as a secretary for New York State for many years.  

Betty enjoyed square dancing and traveling with her husband, Sam, gardening, and sewing. She loved swimming and was a devoted Yankee fan.

Survivors include her children, Wayne M. (Debra) Simmons, Roswell, GA, Jean M. Simmons (Alan P. Dellehunt), Rensselaer, Louise A.  (Steven) Misasi, Dorset, VT; her grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth, and Melissa Simmons and Samantha and Nathaniel Misasi; ;  her sister Marjorie McGrady, Gloversville, NY; and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward F. Hengsterman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday June 13, 2015 at 12 noon at St. Jude the Apostle Church 43 Brookside Avenue in Wynantskill  with Rev. Anthony Ligato , Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in  Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Elizabeth A. Simmons to the Double H Ranch Hole in the Wall 97 Hidden Valley Road Lake Luzerne, NY 12846.
