Eileen P. Welch Johnson, 86

Loudonville - Eileen P. Welch Johnson, 86, of Loudonville Home for Adults died Friday August 22, 2008 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Eagle Mills, she was daughter of the late James T. and Bridget Welch and wife of the late George Johnson.

She was raised in Eagle Mills and resided there for many years and was a graduate of Brittonkill schools, Catholic Central High School and Russell Sage College class of 1944 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics/Dietary.

Eileen enlisted in the US Army during World War II and served as a First Lieutenant in the Women's Medical Specialist Corp as a dietician in numerous military facilities in Texas, California and New York State. After her discharge, she continued her education and became an
elementary school teacher in Troy, Cohoes, Watervliet and Brittonkill School Districts. She later was a teacher in Florence, SC where she met her husband, George Johnson, who predeceased her in 1986.

Active in community affairs, she was a member of the Brunswick Historical Society, Spindle City in Cohoes and several area hospital auxiliaries. She was a baseball enthusiast, a licensed private pilot and still actively involved in private political debates.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Ellen Welch and a brother-in-law, Thomas Carhart; two cousins, Mary Hayes and Kay Danish and numerous nieces and nephews as well as an extended community of family and friends. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sr. Mary Alice Welch CSJ
and May Carhart and two brothers, Joseph D. and James T. Welch.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9:15 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church , 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 PM.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
