Edward B. Schoonmaker, 91

Troy - Edward B. Schoonmaker, 91, beloved husband and father, died on February 24. He and his wife Marian (Fletcher) Schoonmaker, a Troy native, had been married for 67 years. He was born in New York City, son of Herbert S. Schoonmaker and Antoinette (Taylor) Schoonmaker of Long Island. He raised his family in East Rochester, while working as a product designer for Kodak. His projects for the company included microfilm readers, microfiche readers, high-speed check readers, developer equipment for the disk camera film, and other products. He belonged to the Rochester Soaring Club, served on the Board of Rochester Teen Challenge, and was a member of the vestry at St. Matthias Church. In his spare time he enjoyed building model railroads and family sports with his children (canoeing, sledding, building igloos, badminton, and others). He was known for sharing God's grace and trustworthiness with those he knew or in public groups, his sense of humor, a willingness to help others, a love of classical music, and climbing ladders to take care of his house until he was nearly 90.

He and Marian offered their home to various people who needed a place to stay for months or even years, regularly visited long-term residents of Monroe Community Hospital and nursing homes, and reached out to people in their local area. In recent years he moved to Troy to be closer to his grown children.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; daughter Lea Schneider and her husband Dale of Deep River, CT; three sons, Jeff and his wife Doris of Albany, Greg and his wife Nora of Troy, and Renny and his wife Nancy of Grand Rapids, MI; and 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Relatives and friends may call at the Brunswick Church 42 White Church Lane Brunswick on Thursday from 1-2PM with the service to follow at 2PM. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Care Team of Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane, Troy, NY.
