Welcome to the memorial page for

Edmund C. Dodge

December 3, 1933 ~ July 12, 2015 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Averill Park - Edmund C. Dodge, 81, of Bon Acre Way died suddenly Sunday, July 12, 2015, while doing what he loved most, preserving and restoring grave sites of our fallen soldiers. As a passionate veteran, he worked through Find-A-Grave, an organization that helps find and clean neglected cemetery plots and stones of veterans.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and active in local veteran organizations including the Sullivan-Jones Post #7466 VFW Poestenkill, American Legion #1489 Wynantskill, and a Past Commander of the Geerholt-Rehm Post #7396 North Greenbush. He was also a member of the Brunswick Historical Society and the Sand Lake Garden Club.

Born in Watervliet, he was son of the late Harry Dodge and Alice LaValley Dodge and loving husband for 58 years to Joyce (Thierbecker) Dodge. He was raised in Troy and had graduated from Troy High School in 1951. He later relocated and resided in Averill Park for over 50 years where he became a passionate member of the community. He supported local businesses and was an avid fan of the Averill Park Warriors, where he and his wife enjoyed watching their grandchildren participate on many of the area sports teams.

Ed had a love for gardening, and was honored to be the groundskeeper for The College of Saint Rose for 20 years, retiring in 2005. Throughout his time there, he and his wife enjoyed cheering on and supporting the Golden Knights, attending both home and away games together.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Phyllis A. Dodge, St. Petersburgh, FL, Charles M. Dodge, Averill Park and Pamela J. (Theodore) Mason, Brunswick; his siblings, Reine Parker, George and Robert Dodge, Laura Prokym and Mildred Heid; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Trowbridge, Donald and Edward Dodge, Alberta Lester and Francis Dodge.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 4 - 8 PM.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas F. Holmes, officiating.

Interment will be Friday at 12:30PM at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Col. George L. Willard Camp 154 P.O. Box 13681 Albany NY, 12212-3681. This organization shared Ed’s passion in restoring grave sites of our fallen soldiers, and is run solely by volunteers who are mainly retired veterans. With it being so difficult for such an organization to receive funds for what they do we appreciate any support that is offered in memory of Edmund C. Dodge. There really is no greater way to honor his fight, passion, and love for his country.

Charitable donations may be made to:
