Earl F. Sowalskie, 90

Wynantskill - Earl F. Sowalskie, 90, of 8 Powell Street died Tuesday, November 02, 2010, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a brief illness.

Born in Sand Lake, he was son of the late Peter Sowalskie and Caroline Welz Sowalskie and husband for 64 years of Viola Wagner Sowalskie. He had resided in Wynantskill for many years and attended Averill Park schools.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, entering the military service in 1941. He served with Company B 16th Armored Engineers Battalion, stationed in Ireland, North Africa and Italy. He was being awarded the Purple Heart. Upon leaving the service in 1945, he started he own logging business.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 1489 in Wynantskill, the Wynantskill Fire Department and the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Van Schaick Island Country Club.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Bruce Sowalskie of Voorheesville and Glenn (Cindy) Sowalskie of Burlington, VT; two grandchildren, Eric and Laura Sowalskie; a brother-in-law, Raymond Engwer; a sister-in-law, Millie Sowalskie and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Edwin, Arthur, Raymond, and Harold Sowalskie and a sister, Irene Engwer.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. James Hart Brumm , Pastor of the Blooming Grove Reformed Church , officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4- 8 PM.

Interment will be in Memory Gardens Colonie.
