Dudley Apthorp Dorr, 77

West Sand Lake - Dudley Apthorp Dorr, 77, of Cobb Hill Road died suddenly Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Albany Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Clinton, MA, he was son of the late Dudley Huntington Dorr and Mary Murdoch Dorr and beloved husband for 50 years of Roswitha Gerda Tuttle Dorr. He was raised in Lancaster, MA and resided in Albany and Snyders Lake before moving to West Sand Lake in 1967. He was a graduate of Governors Academy in Byfield, MA and a 1962 graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a degree in civil engineering.

Dudley was a licensed civil engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation (Region 1) for 37 and a half years, retiring in 1999.

He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake since 1969 and Distinguished Past President in 1975-76. He was an active volunteer for the Sand Lake Center for the Arts, building sets and later became Property Manager, for 10 years. He was also an Army veteran.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Dudley Michael (Maureen) Dorr, East Nassau, Stephanie (John) Smith, Fort Worth, TX and Andrew Edward (Debra) Dorr, Averill Park; 6 grandchildren, Abigail Roswitha and Michael Christian Smith, Willow LaRoux and Fira Lucia Dorr and Christine Good and David R. Cox; 2 great grandchildren, Rowan and Violet Good; his siblings, Judith Stewart, Carolyn (Earle) Dorr-Rich, Martha Ann (Don Malenfant) Dorr, Molly Hogan and predeceased by John H. Dorr; a brother-in-law, Ralph H. (Geraldine) Tuttle and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a service to follow at 7PM with Deacon Robert Pascarelli, officiating.

Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery West Sand Lake.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Dudley A. Dorr to the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake PO Box 535 West Sand Lake, NY 12196 or Sand Lake Center for the Arts 2880 NY 43 Averill Park, NY 12018.
