Dr. Joseph M. Sullivan DDS

Troy - Dr. Joseph M. Sullivan DDS, 90, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center after a brief  illness surrounded by his loving family. Born in Troy, he was son of the late Michael J. and Kathryn V. O’Donnell Sullivan and husband of Jean (Weber) Lindsay, Palos Verdes, CA and the late Catherine (Bette) Weber.  Joe attended Sacred Heart School in Troy, graduating in 1938 and entered LaSalle Institute class of 1942.  He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute,  the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown University School of Dentistry graduating on June 14, 1947 with high Honor.  Joe was drafted into the Army in July 1943 and serving his Country until September 1944. Joe also served as a Captain with the United States Air Force from July 1951 to July 1953. 

He married Catherine (Bette) Weber on July 9, 1949 and enjoyed 52 loving years of marriage. They had three children, Kittie (Michael) Ryan,  Blue Bell, PA, Kevin (Kimberley Green)  Sullivan, Latham and Michael (Sharon) Sullivan, Friendswood, Texas; a sister, Marion  O'Brien, Troy; eight grandchildren, William (Alexa) Ryan, Caitlin Ryan, Brienne Ryan, Connor Sullivan,  Joey Sullivan, Chris Rudy, Jessica (Kenny) Anderson and Shelley (Daniel) Martin; great grandchildren, Nolan and Jana Rudy and Adelyn and Evelyn Martin and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother,  Donald J. Sullivan and a brother-in-law, M. Raymond O’Brien. 
                                
Joe was a member of  The American Dental Association, Dental Society of the State of New York, Third District Dental Society and the Troy Dental Club, The Country Club of Troy, The Society of the Friends of St. Patrick and Uncle Sam Ski Club where Joe was an Instructor.  He was also a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society, Fellow American College of Dentists and the Knights of Malta.

Joe was a past member of the Board of Trustees at LaSalle Institute, President of the Third District Dental Society, member of the Samaritan Hospital Medical-Dental Staff and former Chief of the Dentistry at Samaritan Hospital, Attending Physician on the St. Mary's Hospital Dental Staff,  Active on the Advisory Board with the Department of Oral Hygiene at Hudson Valley Community College. 

Joe thoroughly enjoyed his profession of Dentistry and loved going to work every day for over 52 years until his wife Bette's health intervened. He was an avid skier, golfer, tennis player and enjoyed traveling with his family on vacations especially to Hilton Head Island, SC.

The family would like to thank Mrs. June Donavon and Ms. Marie Mulligan along with the staff at the Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center and the St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Monday at 10AM at the funeral home and at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Church Troy  Mass of Christian Burial where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John  Yanas, Pastor.

Interment  will be in  St. Mary's Cemetery Troy.
