Dorothy (Dottie) L. Strait

Poestenkill - Dorothy (Dottie) L. Strait of Rt. 351 Poestenkill, has gone to her heavenly home, peacefully, on Tuesday December 19, 2006, with her family present.

Born in Green Island, she was the daughter of the late M. Pearl Miller Bohne and the late Henry J. Bohne. Dorothy was first married to the late Alec R. Robbins Sr. She remarried and was the wife of the late Alwyn E. Strait, President of the Snow White Laundry in Troy.

Her residences included, Stephentown until 1963, North Greenbush until 1978 and Poestenkill until present. Mrs. Strait was Vice President of the Snow White Laundry and assumed its operation for 2 years after her husband's death in 1964. She closed the business in 1966 after 50+ years of operation in Troy.

Mrs. Strait volunteered in the pediatric department of the Samaritan Hospital for several years. She later worked as a home health aide for 5 years in Albany and Rensselaer counties. She also volunteered until 1998 at the North Greenbush Library and was a member of the Taborton Quilt Club and Troy Lodge of Elks Ladies Auxiliary. She also had a thriving alterations business from 1996-2000.

She was a member of the Poestenkill Evangelical Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed making crafts for the church fairs and baking pies at Christmas for the Evangelical Lutheran Home in Albany. She was also a former member of the Federated Church of Stephentown and their Ladies Aid.

Survivors include two sons, Freeman E. Robbins (Cecelia) of San Diego, CA, Lawrence D. Robbins (Marion) of East Syracuse, NY; two daughters, Gwendolyn Robbins Brown (James) of Hookset, NH, Brendalee Strait Reid (Daniel) of Poestenkill; two sisters, Mazie Cross of Nassau, NY, Patricia Flaherty of SC; a brother, Lionel Bohne of TN; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two great great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Alec Raymond Robbins Jr.; a sister, Muriel Gabriel, and a brother, Howard Bohne.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 11am at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Poestenkill Route 351 in Poestenkill with Rev. Stephen Cordes, Pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday from 4-8pm. Interment Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
