Dorothy I. Weatherwax Markussen, 97

North Greenbush - Dorothy I. Weatherwax Markussen, 97, of Route 43 North Greenbush died Sunday, February 26, 2012.

Born in North Greenbush, she was daughter of the late Samuel Weatherwax and Lena Smauder Weatherwax and wife of the late James E. Markussen. She had resided all her life in the house in which she was born. She was a graduate of Troy High School.

Mrs. Markussen was employed for13 years on the accounting staff of Freihofer Baking Company.

She was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church in West Sand Lake, a Sunday school teacher for 25 years, a member of the United Methodist Women and 3M's. She was a 4H leader for 15 years.

Survivors include her two sons, Carl S. (Barbara) Markussen, Wynantskill and Kenneth J. (Lunette) Markussen, West Sand Lake; her grandchildren, Kristin (David) Karcher, Erika (Robert) Narducci, Jeffrey Markussen and Kara (Matthew) Whittaker; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Katharyn Weatherwax and two brothers, Myron and Harold David Weatherwax.

Relatives and friends may call at the Salem United Methodist Church Shaver Road West Sand Lake on Wednesday from 10-11 AM with a service to follow at 11AM with Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Bush , Pastor and Rev. Andy Russ, Former Pastor, co-officiating.

The family fondly appreciates the care given by the staff and owners of Ludders Country Home, The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County and Dr. Kristen Santos and staff.

Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery West Sand Lake.
