Doris Bell Smeland , 77

Brunswick Doris Bell Smeland , 77,of Creek Road died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in after a long illness.

Born in Saugerties NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles Bell and Katherine (Hillje) Bell and beloved wife for 56 years of John C. Smeland.

She was raised and resided in Brunswick most of her life and was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1944.

Mrs. Smeland was a homemaker, a secretary for the American Cancer Society and a teachers aide for George Washington School.

She was a member of George Washington School PTA and the Poestenkill Home Bureau.

Survivors in addition to her husband include three devoted daughters, Patricia Connell of Troy, Konnie Smeland of Troy and June Marx (Peter) of Brunswick; five cherished grandchildren, Khristopher Fitzgerald (Shannon) of Brunswick, Courtney Connell (Marc Antonucci) of Troy, Alexis Pember (John) of Brunswick and Adam and Brian Marx both of Brunswick and two great grandchildren, Jack Fitzgerald and Allie Pember. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles 'Bucky' Bell Jr., who was killed in Guadalcanal during World War II.

Funeral service will be held Monday, at 10:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. Michael Crandall, Chaplain of The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Smeland to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for Samaritan Hospital, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
