Doris (Brenzel) Oakley

September 30, 1918 ~ October 14, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Wynantskill - Doris Brenzel Oakley, 98, formerly of Hillview Ct. died Friday, October 14, 2016, at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Cohoes, she was daughter of the late Davis L. Brenzel and Ada Norton Brenzel and wife of the late Edward C. Oakley. She was raised in Cohoes, resided in Wynantskill and was a graduate of Troy High School and Troy Business College. 

Mrs. Oakley was a school secretary for the Averill Park School District at Sand Lake School for many years, retiring in 1982.  She also worked for Dr. Elizabeth Palmer, and Rensselaer County in the Welfare Department.

She was an active volunteer at Samaritan Hospital for 32 years and a Past President of the Woman's Auxiliary, a member and secretary of Ilium Literary Club, a member of the Junior League of Troy and Troy Woman’s Club, a FISH volunteer, a member of Church of the Covenant in Averill Park and GOOFS and a former Sunday school teacher at Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church.    

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. McNamee, Wynantskill; a grandson, Todd Michael (Mimi) Shoemaker, Port Richey, FL; four great grandchildren, Whitney, Jordyn, Justice and Megan Shoemaker and two great great grandchildren, Emma and Haedyn Shoemaker.  She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Ann and Bill Lansing and Rick, Jean, Dr. Ed and Marcia McFalls and many great friends including Buddy her cat, Alyson and Rob Mitchell, Betsy and Rick Dobert, Maddie Benson, Judy Kane, Barb Fleming and Martha Leckonby.  She was predeceased by three daughters, Judy Scott, Sally Joyce and Nancy Gail.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service which will be held Monday, October 17, 2016 at 7PM at the Church of the Covenant 3055 Route 43 Averill Park with Rev. Joseph Auslander, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in  Oakwood Cemetery Troy.
