Delia Gene (Morgan) Moore, 84

Rotterdam - Delia Gene (Morgan) Moore, 84, of Puritan Dr., Rotterdam, died at home on June 12, 2010. Mrs. Moore was born April 10, 1926 on a farm in Philip, South Dakota, the youngest of 4 children born to Myrtle (Garrett) Morgan and Percy Francis Morgan. She spent her early years in Philip and nearby Cottonwood, SD, where she attended school in a one room schoolhouse. The family moved to La Mars, Iowa and then to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she graduated from University High School in 1943 and the University of Michigan in 1946.

While at the University of Michigan she met a young naval officer, Warren F. Moore of Troy, NY, who was attending a Navy school at the University. Their friendship resulted in a long distance, long time courtship culminating in their marriage on July 6, 1946, shortly after Lt. Moore's release to inactive duty and her graduation from the University of Michigan. The marriage took place at the First Methodist Church of Ann Arbor. The couple lived for several years in Watervliet and Troy, NY while her husband pursued graduate studies as a Research Associate at RPI. They moved to Rotterdam in 1950.

Mrs. Moore was a homemaker and mother of 4, two sons and two daughters. She was active in church, cub scouting, girl scouting, Home Bureau and Parent-Teacher organizations. She was an expert seamstress and particularly enjoyed making clothing for her identical twin daughters. She was also knowledgeable in arts and crafts and used this knowledge and expertise to great advantage in both her homemaking and extracurricular activities.

In 1967 Mrs. Moore received a Masters degree in Library Science from SUNY Albany, and then began a 10 year career as a librarian at Union College's Shaffer Library. She retired in 1977 as Associate Professor and head of the Cataloging Department.

Mrs. Moore and her family were long time boating and camping enthusiasts and had a long time active relationship with the Troy Motor Boat and Canoe Club. They enjoyed many years cruising the Hudson River and Lake Champlain and camping and canoeing in the Adirondacks.

Mrs. Moore was also a long time active member of Fisher United Methodist Church (now known as Rotterdam UMC), where she held many offices in the Church School and the Methodist Women. She was one of the first women elected to the Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Marian Fitzsimons of Bradenton, FL and Frances Sowerby of Grand Rapids, MI, and a brother Reese Morgan of Alexandria, VA.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Warren F. Moore, her children Robert W. Moore and his wife Toshie of Woodside, NY, James R. Moore and his wife Dian of Bluffton, SC, Linda G. Clark and her husband Wesley of Argyle, NY, Patricia A. Melnick and her husband Stephen of Latham, NY, her grandchildren Matthew Clark and his wife Niki, Timothy Clark and his wife Morgan, Allison Clark, Elizabeth Clark, Stefan Melnick, Jessica Melnick, and Kevin Melnick, and one great-grandson, Oliver Clark.

Funeral services will be private. Cremation and interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. Arrangements are by Bryce Funeral Home, Troy.
