Dehra L. Snyder, 83

Schenectady- Dehra L. Snyder, 83, a Registered Nurse, died January 2, 2006, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY.

Mrs. Snyder was born November 6, 1922 in Olean, NY and lived with her parents, Leona and Charles Smith in Ithaca, New York where she attended high school and was subsequently employed as a secretary at Cornell University. On March, 1945 she married Stuart H. Snyder and they lived several years in Carlisle, PA. They relocated to Syracuse, NY in 1953 and in 1963 they moved to Manlius, NY. In 1974 she earned her Nursing Degree from SUNY, Morrisville. She then, at the age of 52, began her nursing career as a Registered Professional Nurse at Syracuse area hospitals. After moving to Chatham, Cape Cod in 1974 she continued to practice nursing on a case to case basis with the Hyannis Medical Personnel Pool until her retirement in 1986. She received several commendations for her outstanding performance in psychiatric and geriatric patient care. In 1999 they moved back to New York State where they built a new home near Wynantskill. Only one year later Dehra was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and in February, 2004 she entered Evergreen Commons Nursing Center in East Greenbush, NY. In October, 2004 Dehra was transferred to Kingsway Arms Nursing Center.

Dehra is survived by her husband, Stuart of Kingsway Village Apartments; two sons Eric of Thailand and Carl of Niskayuna, NY and a daughter, Karen Laird of Margate, FL.

Dehra will be buried at the Gerald BH Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery. No memorial services are planned at this time. Donations may be made The Community Hospice of Schenectady County 1411 Union Street Schenectady, NY 12308.
