David A. Lloyd, 82

Troy - David A. Lloyd, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Dave was born in Troy in 1929 to the late Millie J. Lithgow Lloyd and James B. Lloyd. He is the grandson of the late David C. Lithgow, prominent Albany artist.

Dave was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School (1947) and Syracuse University (1951) with a BA degree in English-Journalism. While at Syracuse, Dave rowed on the University crew team for four years. After graduation he worked in the Public Relations-Journalism Department of the New York State Thruway Authority.

Dave served in the U.S. Army and was recruited to the Counter Intelligence Corps. While in the CIC, he was assigned to an undercover unit in Baltimore, MD and Washington D.C. After his discharge, he worked for a period with the NYS Department of Justice.

The Lloyd Studio, oldest continuously family- owned and operated photography studio in the United States, opened in 1880. When Dave's father died in 1954, Dave agreed to run the studio. In 1970, Dave purchased a former church and relocated the studio at its present site.

Dave was predeceased by his first wife, Maralyn Alyce Keener Lloyd. Dave and his second wife, Jacquelyn Crawford Lloyd, married in 1974. Dave grew with the studio and received his Craftsman degree in 1978 and his Master's degree in 1983. He was President of Capital Champlain of PPSNY on two occasions. He was also President of NYS Professional Photographer Society in 1983.

Dave was chosen as an International Print Juror in 1984 and was chosen to head the Winona Board of Trustees in 1988. His daughter, Valarie, is now operating the studio and is the fifth generation owner in the family.

Dave is the loving father of Lesley (James) McNutt, Alysa (Kevin) Conway, Valarie Jill Lloyd, Sherryel (Jerry) Kunkel, Karen (Phil) Hergenreder, and Kevin Paine and loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren. Dave was predeceased by his stepson, Bruce Paine.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday from 3-5 PM and 7-9PM .

Funeral service will be held Saturday, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Troy with Rev. Michael Gorchov , Rector , officiating.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of David A. Lloyd to the American Kidney Fund 6110 Executive Boulevard Rockville, MD 20852.
