Charles T. Lobdell, 78

Troy- Charles T. Lobdell, 78,of Tibbits Avenue, died Sunday, October 22, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a long illness.

Born in Standish, NY, he was the son of the late Richard Lobdell and Evelyn (Rabideau) Lobdell Parnell and husband of the late Theresa Sarah LaWare Lobdell.

He was raised in Standish, NY in the Adirondacks and in the late 1940's moved to Port Henry where he met his wife and married on September 23, 1949 at St. Patrick's Parish in Port Henry. He came to Troy in 1956.

Mr. Lobdell retired as supervisor of the mechanical shop at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute after 32 years in 1993.

As a fan of country music, he was a guitarist and mandolin player and was part of an Adirondack band, the Melody Rangers in his youth. He also taught guitar to all his family, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an Army veteran of World War II stationed in Germany.

He is survived by a daughter, Shirley A. Gagnon of Troy; two sons, Thomas C. Lobdell (Hazel) and Charles E. (Renee) Lobdell both of Troy; 8 grandchildren; a great grandson; three brothers, Robert Lobdell of FL, George Parnell of Nyack and Phillip Parnell of Alderbrook and four sisters, Irene Budwich of Lyon Mtn, Shirley Rasco of Cadyville, Florence Keese of Alderbrook and Lula Bornstein of New York City.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 9:30 AM at St. Francis de Sales Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Donald Ophals, Pastor. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Entombment St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum in Troy. Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Lobdell to the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Road Loudonville, NY 12211.
