To Aunt Betty and my many cousins and their families:
Please accept our condolences and prayers. Your efforts to celebrate his life are tremendous in your grief and it reflects the type of Father and Grandpa he was. Uncle Charlie was an uncle that we always wanted to visit and be with! His sense of pride, humor, and genuine caring were felt by his nieces and nephews, whether he was mystifying us with JuneBugs at the homestead or letting us terrorize the chickens. To me he was a clear, rational man. Who else could have raised the clan that he and Aunt Betty did? When I think about it and see your efforts, and remember your hardships, I realize you all helped raise each other and you still do! that's family in the purest sense. I will never forget the couple of visits to Uncle Charlie at the Arsenal, and the pride he instilled in me as an American, his service and dedication to his work protecting a piece of the world. There is never a time when I pass Ft. Lewis, here in WA, and remember he was based here, and think of him and all of you. Peace be with you and yours!

Our father was a loyal, strong, intelligent, and humble man.
There was nothing he could not do. And if he didn't know how to do something he finished the job anyway. Can't was not in his vocabulary or allowed as an excuse in the home.
Dad was tough. He raised us to be strong independent infividuals. Yet deep inside, his blue eyes hid perhaps the kindest soul one could meet.
Fate was always something he embraced. He knew he was provided 96 years on this earth and he msde the most of every one of those days. He provided all his children with a legacy that would be tough to live up to. I could only dream of bring 1/2 the man he was,and that would still place me above 98% of all men on this earth.
He was a man who you respected because he lived what he said. He feared noone except my wonderful mom who he cherished in praise and quiet devotion.
Dad, I write this to you shedding multiple tears. I want you to know that I was honored to call you Dad. I look forward to the days when I can look into your beautiful blue eyes and say I love you. Big proud hug to you. You are my champion.
Your loving son, Charlie Jr.
