Catherine Davey Stewart, 95 Troy Catherine Davey Stewart, 95, of Northwoods at Troy died Sunday August 26th at Northwoods at Troy after a long illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY she was daughter of the late William and Mary Ellis Davey and wife of the late Charles Stewart. She had resided in the Troy area most of her life and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School, Saint Faiths School in Saratoga and earned her B.S. degree from Simmons College in Boston. Mrs. Stewart was Assistant to the Dean at the University of Illinois at Urbana, Secretary to the Associate Business Manager in charge of personnel at the Mayo Clinic and Credit manager of Ellis Hospital in Schenectady and Wells & Coverly in Troy. She retired as a senior stenographer in the guidance department at Troy High School many years ago. She was a member and Past President of the Empire State Credit Women's Association and the Thursday Morning Club and a member of the Business and Professional Credit Women and Ilium Literary Club. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy and a Ruling Elder and Deacon of the church; a Past President of United Presbyterian Women and a member of Church Women United. She and her husband had been co-chairpersons of the Cancer Daffodil Drive in Troy at one time. Survivors include four nieces Carol Palmer of Smyrna, DE, Muriel Carle of Newburg, Elizabeth Mann of Orchard Park and Denise Davey of Tucson, AZ; a sister-in-law Virginia Davey of Orchard Park and her caregiver Thelma J. Riggs of Troy. She was predeceased by two brothers Venner and William Davey. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy with Rev. Frederic C. Guile, the pastor who married Charles and Catherine, officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Catherine to the Alzheimer's Association Capital District Chapter 85 Watervliet Avenue Albany, NY 12206-2083 or the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Road Loudonville, NY 12211.
