Welcome to the memorial page for

Catherine 'Kay' Killough

December 18, 2012

Catherine B. Killough, 91

Albany - Catherine B. Killough died Tuesday night; she was 91. Born Catherine Irene Boyle, in 2009 she was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Vrooman D. Killough.

With a combination of world travel, golf at Pinehaven Country Club, and starting each evening with a cocktail, Onie and Kay lived fully a life of simple elegance. They were good company, interested in the lives and welfare of friends and acquaintances and always ready for fun. Kay was a woman of taste, refinement, and strong opinions leavened by kindness.

She and Onie were also deeply in love and when age and infirmity came into their lives, Kay was constantly at Onie's bedside during his four years in Teresian House. After Onie's death, Kay remained active in the social life at Avila, traveling and playing bridge.

As Kay approached her 90s, she didn't fret about death; rather she embraced it - less to escape the tribulations of this life than in anticipation of the serenity of the next.

Kay is survived by Onie's nieces, Jane (Mrs. Michael) Falvy of Guilderland Center, Sandra (Mrs. Robert) Rose of Binghamton, and Mary (Mrs. Robert) Kennedy of Belmont, Massachusetts; her friend and confidant Chris Callaghan of Waterford; her good friends Ann (Mrs. Fred) Stutzman and Barbara (Mrs. Kevin Shea) Campbell, both of Albany; and her friend Shirley Jordan and her many other friends and neighbors at Avila.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 10:30 AM at the First Church in Albany (Reformed) 110 North Pearl Street Albany with Rev. John Paarlberg, Pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Kay Killough to the Little Sisters of the Poor 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane Latham, NY 12110-309 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
