Carolyn Jane (Davis) Estabrooks

Troy - Carolyn Jane Davis Estabrooks, 93, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Frank S. B. Davis and Leona DeSilva Davis King Hotaling.  She resided in Cropseyville most of her life, and was a 1942 graduate of Troy High School, and attended Hudson Valley Community College.

Carolyn was a well known artist whose many abstract water colors are in private collections. She enjoyed teaching art at Wiawaka, supporting Capital Roots, traveling, bird watching (Audubon Bird Counts), cooking, sewing for her family, and a variety of handwork and crafts, "creating something from nothing."

She was a member of Ilium Literary Club, Campfire Girls, Rensselaer County Council for the Arts, and Brunswick Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her children Frank (Lori) Estabrooks, Cropseyville, Nanson E. Serrianne, Glens Falls, Carrie M. Estabrooks, Mont Tremblant, Quebec, and Jay L. Estabrooks, Berlin; a daughter-in-law, Barbara (George) Estabrooks; her grandchildren, Danush, Elizabeth, Nina, Daisy, Bonny, Seth, Samuel, Ethan, and Aaron; her great grandchildren, Kody, Zoe, Riley, Liam, and Dylan, and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by four children, John, Paul, George, and Polly Mae Estabrooks; a sister, Shirley Connell, and two step brothers, Raymond J. Hotaling and William Hotaling.  The family is very grateful to Kathy Schermerhorn (mother of Daisy and Bonny) for sharing her time, travels, and support with Carolyn.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, inc., 276 Pawling Ave., Troy, on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 1-3 PM, with a service at 3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Carolyn Jane Davis Estabrooks to the Capital Roots, 594 River St, Troy, NY 12180, or Food Pantries for the Capital District, 32 Essex St, Albany, NY 12206.
