Calla M. (Dever) Osborne

October 10, 1922 ~ November 3, 2016 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Colonie - Calla M. Dever Osborne, 94, of Towers of Colonie, Sand Creek Road died Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Albany after a long illness.

Born in Cleveland, WV, she was daughter of the late Charles W. Dever and Lela F. Wilson Dever and wife for 54 years of the late Karl F. Osborne. She had resided in West Virginia for 18 years, then Akron, Ohio and Charleston, WV and in Albany, Loudonville and Colonie since 1959. She was a graduate of Akron School of Nursing, Akron, OH. 

Mrs. Osborne was a Registered Nurse for the Albany County Nursing Home for 20 years, retiring in 1984 as a Nursing Supervisor. She also worked at Schaefer Brewery, University Heights and the Ann Lee Home. She began her practice at Peoples Hospital in Akron. 

She was a member of the Newtonville United Methodist Church and was a World War II nurse in the 116th Evac Hospital and was awarded the Bronze Star. In 2008, Mrs. Osborne received a Shofar of Freedom Award from Temple Israel of Albany, for caring for the prisoners of Dachau immediately after liberation. In 2013, se was named Co-Veteran of the Year, with James A. Haggerty of Valatie, by the New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs. She was a member of United Methodist Women, TOPS 985 Loudonville, Silver Streakers and the Troy Christian Women’s Club.  

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth (David) Oster, Brunswick and a sister, Elizabeth Gray, Columbus, OH. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Dever and a sister, Shirley Berardi. She is also survived by a nephew and several nieces.

The family would like to thank her devoted aides Frances Gallo and Sallie Chapman, Roberta N. Miller, MD (Mom’s “Wind beneath her Wings”), Sergio V. Rapisarda, MD, David J. Papa DDS and staff, the Eddy Visiting Nurses and the amazing and compassionate staff at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital, her neighbors and friends at Towers of Colonie and her loving church family at NUMC for the tender care they showed her in her final years with us.
 
Thank you also to Paul, Susan & Anthony Provost and their wonderful staff at Hemlock Hall, Blue Mountain Lake for making their wonderful inn, Mom’s and our home away from home.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday, November 7, 2016 from 4-7PM. 

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10AM at the Newtonville United Methodist Church 568 New Loudon Rd, Latham with Rev. Steven Smith, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery Brunswick.
