Barbara Hazel (Brink) Ford

July 20, 1920 ~ May 25, 2015 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Piseco, NY - Barbara Hazel (Brink) Ford of Piseco, NY died on Monday, May 25, 2015, at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, Troy, NY.  She was 94.

She was born July 20, 1920, in the town of Colesville, NJ, to Horace I. and Nellie (Bale) Brink.  She married James (Jim) Ford on August 18, 1940.  Barbara was predeceased by her husband, her brother Horace (Bud) of Colesville, and her son David of Piseco and Port Orange, Florida.

She is survived by her three children, Ken of Key Largo, Florida; Linda and her husband, Phil Ferguson of Poestenkill, NY; Steve of Cohoes, NY; and daughter-in-law, Judy of Piseco and Port Orange.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elinor, of Arcadia, Florida; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. 

Barbara grew up on a dairy farm in Colesville, graduated from Sussex High School in 1936, and then worked as a laboratory technician for the State of New Jersey.  After she was married, she and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Westtown, NY.  In 1954 they bought the summer resort, Half Moon Beach, on Piseco Lake and together they operated this business until 1974.  Upon retirement, Barbara and Jim spent their winters in Key Largo, summers in Piseco, and eventually spring and fall in Brunswick, N.Y.

Barbara was very talented.  She played piano, and anyone who knew her knew that she loved to sing and dance.  She was a talented seamstress making clothes, quilts, and her granddaughter’s wedding dress.  Her many other skills included braiding rugs, leather crafting, painting, crewelwork,  and knitting  She also was a lifelong genealogist.  

She was very family oriented and put lots of energy into creating enjoyable family get togethers.  

A Memorial Service will be held at the Lake Pleasant United Methodist Church, Lake Pleasant, NY, at !2 noon on Saturday, June 20, 2015.  

In the latter part of her life, Barbara suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
