Arthur E. Smith, 86

North Greenbush - Arthur E. Smith, 86, of Blooming Grove Drive died Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Joseph Smith and Louise Eaton Smith and husband of Eleanor Mueller Smith. He had resided in Troy all his life and was educated in Troy Schools and was a graduate of RPI and Albany Law School. He was a member of the New York State Bar Association.

Mr. Smith was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal for many years designing tools and in the Quality Assurance department.

He and his wife were members of the Patroon Dog Training Club and the Uncle Sam Ski Club. He was very talented and artistic, enjoying painting portraits and body sketches, models and oil painting. He could do anything around the house, except plumbing, inside or out he did it all. He loved making jewelry and stained glass windows. He and Eleanor saw the world together. They were couriers for World Couriers touring England and Europe and independently traveled through Turkey, Scandinavia, Russia, Morocco, Ukraine and many other countries.

Survivors in addition to his wife include several nieces and nephews, Robert (Linda) Smith, Stephen (Diane) Smith, Scott Smith and Jeffrey (Sharon) Smith, Jennifer Gaenzle (Colin) Smith and Rick (Maura) Gaenzle and several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, James W. and Robert S. Smith.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1PM at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Van Rensselaer Manor C-1 for all the loving care of Arthur during his stay.
