Arthur L. Collins, 91

Troy - Arthur L. Collins, 91,of Riding Club Road, died Thursday, February 21, 2008 at his residence after a long illness.

Born and lived in the Troy area all his life, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lenore (Zion) Collins and husband for 66 years of Elsie Helmbold Collins.

He was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School class of 1933. He continued his education at Union College, graduating in 1937. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Arthur had been President of Collins Lumber Corporation for 50 years, a fifth generation Troy family business founded by his great grandfather in the late l800's. Interested in real estate, he was a partner in the Troy Professional Building and the Massachusetts Avenue Association. Many years ago, he was President of the former Crossroads Restaurant in Latham.

Among the Boards of Directors that Arthur served were the former Troy Cooperative Savings & Loan Association and the Home & City Savings Bank in Albany; the Bethesda Home Association, the Troy YMCA and the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge, F&AM, the Order of the Mystic Shrine and a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church in Troy and a former Senior Warden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mr. Collins was a longtime member of the Country Club of Troy and the former Troy Club. In his free time he greatly enjoyed golf, cars and travel.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Carolyn (Peter) Farrell of Ospry, FL; a son, Edward (Lynne) Collins of Loudonville; three granddaughters, Susan (Christopher Weir) Collins and Sarah Collins both of San Francisco and Sandra Collins of Troy and a sister, Carol (Nicholas) Gillham of North Carolina. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles E. Collins.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30am at St. John's Episcopal Church 146 First Street Troy with Rev. Dr. Harold Carrier, Rector, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday from 4-7 pm.

Interment Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Arthur to the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Road Loudonville, NY 12211 or the Alzheimer's Association Capital District Chapter 85 Watervliet Avenue Albany, NY 12206-2083.
