Ann Craw O'Brien Nussbaum, 89

Troy - Ann Craw O'Brien Nussbaum, 89, formerly of Brunswick Hills died Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center.

Born in Albany, she was daughter of the late Clarence Montgomery Craw and Florence McNamara Craw and wife of the late Frederick M. Nussbaum and John F. O'Brien.

She was a graduate of Ravena High School and Albany Business College and had studied at the Grand Central School of Art.

Long active at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill, Mrs. Nussbaum had served as trophy chairman of St. Jude's Horse Show and was co-leader of the school's first Girl Scout troop. She had also served twice as president of the Rosary-Altar Society. While a resident of North Greenbush she was one of the original eight members of the Octagon Artists.

Upon her retirement from the Watervliet Arsenal as a research secretary in the Benet Laboratories. Mrs. Nussbaum devoted her life to volunteering particularly at the Samaritan Hospital as a patient representative, also serving as president of the Auxiliary from 1996-98 and a member of the Board in 1989.

A member of the Country Club of Troy, she was an active participant in ladies golf and bridge groups.

Mrs. Nussbaum was a longtime member of the Troy-Cohoes YWCA Board of Directors, past secretary of the Birchkill Arts and Crafts Guild, past president and former secretary of the Ilium Literary Club and a member of the Rensselaer County and Brunswick Historical Societies, the Green Island Girls bowling team, the Literary Volunteers of America, President of Troy Women's Club and AARP.

Survivors include a son, Mark M. (Robin) O'Brien, Averill Park; three grandchildren, Shannon, Dierdre and Darby O'Brien; two step children, James Trent Ferguson and Patricia Sanford. She was predeceased by a son, Kevin O'Brien and a sister, Alice C. Dahl.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 9:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7.

Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery Menands.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Ann C. Nussbaum to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County 295 Valley View Boulevard Rensselaer, NY 12144 and the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society 3 Oakland Avenue Menands, NY 12204 .
