Anita (Poole) McCabe

Valley Falls - Anita Poole McCabe, 71, of Secluded Way Valley Falls died suddenly Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Albany Memorial Hospital.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Walter W. Poole and Catheryn Richter Poole and wife of the late John E.  McCabe Jr. She was raised in Troy, resided in Orlando, FL, for many years in Brunswick and a few years in Valley Falls.  She was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1963 and received her LPN from Putnam Memorial School of Nursing in Bennington graduating with honors. 

Anita was an Accounting Supervisor for Rensselaer County Department of Social Services for 27 years retiring in 2007.  Prior to that she was a Licensed Practical Nurse for the old Leonard Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital and for 10 years managed a doctors office in Florida.  Many years ago she also worked at Nightengale Nursing Home in Troy which her mother owned.  

She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Van Rensselaer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Grafton Historical Society.    

Survivors include two sons, Scott Walter (Melissa) Newell, Valley Falls and John E. (Tracy) McCabe III, Saratoga Springs; her grandchildren, Nicholas and David Newell, John IV and Sarah McCabe and Jesse and Lauren Holt; a nephew, Robert Poole Jr, Jewitt City, CT; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Poole, a sister, Carolyn Adams and cousin, Peter Goedtel.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 4 - 7PM .

Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10AM at Hope United Methodist Church 566 Brunswick Road Eagle Mills with Rev. David Martin, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in  Oakwood Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Anita P. McCabe to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society 3 Oakland Avenue Menands, NY 12204.
