Andrew L. Bryce, 84

Eagle Mills Andrew L. Bryce, 84, of Garfield Road in Eagle Mills, NY, died on January 31, 2007 at Samaritan Hospital.

He was born on March 8, 1922, the son of the late Andrew L. Bryce and Elsie (Dedicoat) Bryce. He was the husband of Mary (Olson) Bryce. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on January 13.

Andrew graduated from Lansingburg High School in 1939. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. He served a pattern making apprenticeship at Ludlow Valve and used many of these skills to form his own business. He was a cabinet maker and contractor, specializing in kitchens.

After moving to Eagle Mills he became very active in Boy Scout Troop 27 and the volunteer fire company. He was scout master and enjoyed teaching the boys leadership skills. He enjoyed camping and canoe trips as much as they did and forged many life long friends.

Andrew joined the fire company in 1953 and became a lifetime member. He served as fire commissioner from 1972-1984. He was chairman from 1979-1984 during which the new Eagle Mills firehouse was built on Route 2.

Survivors in addition to his wife include 5 children, Nancy E. Twaddell (Victor) of Nashua NH, William N. Bryce (Pamela) of Denver, CO, Barbara J. Barnewall (James) of White Creek, NY, Andrew David Bryce (Peggy) of Troy, NY, Dr. Thomas N. Bryce (Priscilla) of Manhattan NY; 12 grandchildren, Robert Twaddell, Sarah Dupont, Benjamin Ott, Matthew Bryce, Aaron Bryce, Brian Bryce, Jessica Barnewall, Andrew Jeremiah Bryce, Hannah Bryce, Heather Bryce, Jane Bryce, and Madeline Bryce and 5 great grandchildren, David, Hunter, Brady, Jacob and Abby.

Andrew will be remembered as a outdoorsman, husband, father and a person with a traumatic spinal cord injury who remained independent until his death at age 84. He played many hours of dominoes and uno with the grandchildren.

His son Thomas, has established a Life Challenge Scholarship in his name to be administered by the Mount Sinai Spinal Cord Injury Model System. Donations may be made to: NYCSCIA, P.O. Box 286444, Yorkville Station, New York, N.Y. 10128-0014.
