Albert J. DeCelle Jr., 66

Defreestville - Albert J. DeCelle Jr., 66, of Eastview Terrace died suddenly Monday, November 08, 2010, at Albany Memorial Hospital after being stricken at his home.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Albert J. DeCelle Sr. and Helen E. Snyder DeCelle, and beloved husband for 45 years of Lynda A. Palka DeCelle. He was predeceased by a brother, John J. DeCelle, who died in May of this year. He had resided in the North Greenbush area for many years and was a graduate of Averill Park High School.

After working for The Appleknocker restaurant and Ford Motor Company, Al and his brother John took over the Miss Troy Diner on Pawling Avenue from their father in 1969, operating it for 30 years. They also co-owned Heff-Dees restaurant on Route 4 in North Greenbush with friend Tom Heffner. Al later worked for Adesta, LLC.

An honorable man, no words can truly express how much Al will be missed. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Mia and Shane. As a father and husband, he was intuitive, always there giving advice and comforting us with his culinary delights. Although unassuming, Al often surprised friends with his costumes and antics. A man of strong conviction, his loyalty to 'American Made' is well known. He took great pride in his home and had many hobbies, including automobiles, watching the stockmarket, car races, gardening, vacationing to the Caribbean, and lounging at Seacrets in Ocean City.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Shawn D. DeCelle of Wynantskill; a daughter, Shannon L. (Eric Schwanke) DeCelle of Averill Park; his grandchildren, Mia Skye DeCelle and Shane Wallace DeCelle; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne M. (Marlies) Palka of Wynantskill, Stephen Palka III of Wynantskill and Carolyn DeCelle of Troy; nieces Kathleen DeCelle, Domino Smotrys and Kelly Palka; nephews Michael DeCelle, Brian Palka and Michael Palka.

Funeral service to be held Friday at 9:45 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, and at 10:30 AM at the Parish of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph, 50 Herrick Street, Rensselaer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Adam Forno, Pastor.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 PM.

Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Troy.
