Adrian C. Gonyea, 87

Troy- "In loving memory of Adrian C. Gonyea, 87, born April 8, 1927, passed away quietly at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center Albany on Thursday, April 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of the late Adrian and Gertrude Martin Gonyea. He was the brother of Adrienne Mooney and the late Martin Gonyea and Betty Lyons. He was the loving father of Kimberly Kross, Valerie Gonyea (Jeff Schmidt) and Bethany Gonyea; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Jared and Jonathan Kross and Mikayla and Cheney Smith and a great granddaughter, Chloe Kross.

A Navy veteran of World War II, Adrian C. Gonyea then graduated from Siena College with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics in 1952 and a Master of Science degree in education in 1958. He taught many classes in business and finance at Hudson Valley Community College and eventually became the first Dean of the School of Business at Hudson Valley Community College in 1971. He retired from the college in August 1991.

In the late fall 1968 Gonyea took a leave of absence from the college to become interim City Manager of Troy, N.Y. with the aim of bringing efficient management to the Collar City. He left the post 11 months later, citing concerns of city corruption and an inability to create change as a result of longstanding political influences.

Gonyea enjoyed an active life including skiing, tennis, sky-diving and golf. He achieved his Solo Pilot license in the early 70's.

Graveside service will be held TODAY Friday at 10AM at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville with full military honors with Rev. Sam Trumbore, officiating. Please send condolences to Bethany Gonyea, PO Box 1322, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
