Winifred Hayes (Crannell) Asher

North Greenbush - Winifred Crannell Hayes Asher, 97, of Glen Drive died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at her residence after a long and wonderful life. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur H. Crannell and Anna Lansing Crannell and wife of the late John P.  Asher and John J. Hayes. She had resided in Troy and the past years in North Greenbush.  She was a graduate of St. Agnes School, attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs and Parsons Art School in New York City. 

Mrs. Asher was an art teacher in the Troy School District. She was past president of the Troy Arts Guild and the director of Albany Artist Group.  She also taught adult painting, both private and for Adult Education at Troy High School. Winifred won many awards for her portrait painting and landscapes of Rensselaer County.

She was an active communicant of the former St. Paul the Apostle Church and St. Michael the Archangel Church.    

Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Lansing Hayes (Clifton Bradley) of NYC; a son, John J. (Kathleen) Hayes Jr. of Troy; her grandchildren, Tricia (Alain) St. Hilaire and Laura (Christopher) Doyle, both from Phoenixville, PA, Jonathan Hayes Bradley, NYC and Charlotte Hayes Bradley, Syracuse; her great grandchildren, Amelia, Alistair and Annie St. Hilaire, Calum and Liam Doyle and several nieces and nephews.

Winifred’s wonderful hospitality, wit and humor were enjoyed by her friends and family. She was a gift to us all.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday from 4-7PM. 

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30AM at the funeral home with Rev. James J. Vaughan, officiating.

Interment will be in  St. Agnes Cemetery Menands.
