William A Smith, 89

Brunswick - William A Smith, 89, of Langmore Lane died Friday, April 26, 2013, at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late William P. Smith and Katherine Schmidt Smith and husband for 43 years of Angela M. O'Connor Smith. He was raised in Troy, resided in Hoosick Falls for 15 years and the past 30 years in Brunswick and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and attended the American Institute of Banking.

Mr. Smith was retired in 1985 as an Assistant Cashier for Fleet Bank after 43 years of banking beginning in National City Bank.

He was active in Cub Scouting and Lansingburgh and Brunswick Little Leagues, Rotary Club of Troy, the charter president of the Kiwanis Club of Cohoes, a 60 year member of Phoenix Masonic Lodge F+AM, Brunswick Historical Society, Society of the Friends of St. Patrick and the Troy Chamber of Commerce. He was active in his church's including Memorial United Methodist, North Hoosick Methodist Church as a Lay Leader, chairman of the Administrative Board and a Trustee and most recently at Hope United Methodist Church as an usher and chairman of the Administrative Council. He was the former treasurer for the Troy Methodist Conference. An avid reader, Bill enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cooking and baking for his family and friends.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, David A. Smith and William A. (Malia) McDonough, CA; two grandchildren, Joshua A. (Mandi) McDonough, GA and Carissa M. McDonough, CA and a sister, Eleanor R. Smith, Brunswick.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday from 4-7PM.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11AM at Hope United Methodist Church 566 Brunswick Road Eagle Mills with Rev. David Martin, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Eagle Mills Cemetery.
