William Danford, 83

Troy - William Danford, 83, of Hampton Place Boulevard died Monday, November 08, 2010, at Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Ticonderoga, he was son of the late Etta Granger Danford Bliss and husband of the late Ruth Momrow Danford. He was raised in Ticonderoga, resided in Pittsfield from 1936-99, in North Greenbush since 1999 and attended Pittsfield schools.

Mr. Danford was employed at General Electric Pittsfield for 41 years retiring in 1975 as a 350 ton crane operator and later a Foreman and worked in Naval Ordinance hiring.

He was President of the Berkshire Beagle Club, a member of the General Electric Athletics Association, VFW, Disabled American Veteran's, a field judge for many dog shows, ran rabies clinics and turkey shoots and was Pittsfield, MA Deputy Sheriff in the mid 60's. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, Seaman 2nd Class and was an avid hunter. He was a 54 year member of the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Edward) Cassino of North Greenbush; a son, Edward (Melissa) Danford of Sand Lake; a sister, Patricia (Raymond) Scheufler of Penn Yan, NY; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Slavin of Averill Park, William (Dana) Peaslee of West Sand Lake and Ashlee and Kailee Danford of Sand Lake; five great grandchildren, Jayci, Logan, Jacob, Liam and Mia and a niece and a nephew.

Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Sand Lake Union Cemetery Sand Lake.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of William Danford to theSamuel Stratton VA Medical Center Hospice Program 113 Holland Avenue Albany, NY 12208.
