William D. Cioffi, 87

Burden Lake - William D. Cioffi, 87, of Evergreen Drive Averill Park died suddenly Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at Albany Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Albany, he was son of the late Michael Cioffi and Dominica DelSole Cioffi and husband for 61 years of Mary Jane O'Connor Cioffi. He was raised in Albany, had resided at Burden Lake for the past 36 years and was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School in Albany and Modern Welding Training School in Schenectady.

Mr. Cioffi was owner and operator of Cioffi Brothers Inc. on Broadway in Albany for 42 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks, Gasoline Retailers Association, Teamsters Union, Knights of Columbus Albany, a Past President, member of the Board of Directors and a founding member of the Burden Lake Improvement Association. He was an Army veteran of World War II stationed in India.

Mr. Cioffi was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening, cooking and Burden Lake. His greatest joy was his children and great grandchildren and his best day was a day on the dock with his family.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children William D. (Gwen) Cioffi of Scottsdale, Mark M. (Beth) Cioffi of West Sand Lake, Craig F. (Katherine) Cioffi of Averill Park, Lynn (Richard) Thorpe of Averill Park, Ken T. (Colleen) Cioffi of Averill Park, Lisa (Honorable Paul) Toomey of Averill Park, NY and Ted J. Cioffi of Averill Park; a sister, Linda Miller of Nassau; a brother, Michael (Marge) Cioffi of Albany; his grandchildren, Craig Jr., Kevin, Ryan, Mark II and Peter Cioffi, Billy and Evan Thorpe, Ken II, Jessica, Adam and Alex Cioffi, Faith, Maeve and Kean Toomey and April Cioffi; his great grandchildren, Cole, Chase, Luke and Kamryn Cioffi and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Erminia Choppa, Rose Russo, Ann Fink and Jeanne Morris and a brother, Joseph Cioffi.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11:30 AM at the St. Henry's Church Old Route 66 Averill Park where where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Provost , Pastor.

Relatives and friends may call at the CHURCH on Sunday from 3-7 PM.

Interment will be in St. Henry's Cemetery.
