William David Campbell

April 14, 1949 ~ October 28, 2014 (age 65) 65 Years Old

North Greenbush - William David Campbell (Bill), of North Greenbush passed away on Tuesday, October 28 at St. Mary's Hospice after a long and courageous struggle with prostate cancer. 

Bill was born on April 14, 1949 to the late Thomas F. and Bernice Shellard Campbell.  Bill is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 44 years, Barbara Robinson Campbell. He is also the extremely proud father of Major Bryan W. Campbell, USA, his daughter-in-law Jennifer and his two adored grandchildren, Rory and Alice Campbell, of Honolulu, Hawaii.

He graduated from Troy High School, class of 1967, and HVCC in 1970 with an Associate's degree in Public Health. He then earned his BA from Russell Sage Evening Division and a BS from the University of the State of New York, now known as Excelsior College.

Bill began his career in Public Health at the Rensselaer County Health Department where he worked for over 16 years. He then went on to work at the NYS Department of Health in various positions from which he retired in 2004.

Bill enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in 1969 and eventually went through the Empire State Military Academy's Officer Candidate School, graduating first in his class in 1978. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Armor Branch and was assigned to the 210th Armor Regiment. He later was assigned to the 205th Support Group and finished his career as Division Transportation Officer with the 42' Infantry Division as a Major after 25 years of service.

He was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in North Greenbush where he served on the Parish Council, was past President of the Men's Club, a team member of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults committee, a lector and an usher.  Bill was also a former President of the Upstate New York West Point Parents Club.

Bill was a proud and dedicated member of the Honor Guard at Saratoga National Cemetery.

Bill is survived by his siblings, Thomas Campbell (Frances) of Mechanicville, Susan Wait (Gerald) of Gansevoort, Bonnie Saceric (Robert) of Wynantskill, James Campbell (Anne) of Wynantskill and Linda Beaudoin (Daren Harrington) of Grafton. He is also survived by his in-laws, Marilyn and Terry Wiegert, Shirley McLaughlin (late Donald) and Edward and Patricia Robinson, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Friday at 9 AM at the funeral home and at 9:30 AM at St. Michael's Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment with full military honors will be held at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville Friday at 12:30PM.

At Bill's request, in lieu of flowers, contributions to the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, Albany Medical Center, A Building, 5th Floor, 43 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208 would be greatly appreciated.
