Werner J. Gross, 77

Troy Werner J. Gross, 77, of Brentwood Avenue, died suddenly Monday at his residence.

Born in Germany, he was son of the late Herman Joseph and Clara Mertens Gross and husband of the late Verna Mary Gerke Gross. He had resided in Germany until the age of 6, then Pennsylvania, was raised in the Bronx and Long Island and came to the Albany area in 1952.

Mr. Gross was employed at the US Postal Service from 1952-1986, working in the New Karner Road Facility for many years.

He was an avid reader, enjoyed exercising at the Troy Senior Center and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his children; Cornelius Kunst of Marlboro, MA, Karol Snyder of Albany, Rodney Kurst of Castleton, Gary Kunst of Old Tappan, NJ, Paula Shepard of Cohoes and Marlena Gross of Kirksville, MO; 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter Barbara Hanson.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue in Troy on Wednesday from 6-8pm.

A service will be held Thursday at 9:30am at St. Agnes Mausoleum Chapel in Menands, with Rev. Albert Pavlik of St. Joseph's Church in Troy, officiating.
