Warren E. Huntley, 83

TROY -- Warren E. Huntley, 83, of Fairfield Road died March 6, 2009 at Samaritan Hospital.

Born in Troy, he was the son of Warren E. Huntley, Sr. and Edwina Walsh Huntley. For most of his life he resided in the Pinewoods Avenue area of Troy.

He was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1943. In October 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was accepted in the Air Cadet Program. He trained at Chanute Field and served in the Pacific Theater in the Air Offensive Japan Campaign on Iwo Jima and in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946 after which he attended Rutland Junior College and Albany Business College.

With his father he was involved in the importing and sales of Swisstillers and rototillers. He was later employed by the New York Telephone Company and owned and operated Grader Service, Inc. and Latham Lawn and Sports, Inc. He was a long time member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

He was a former member of the Troy Country Club and the Troy Club. He served as cubmaster for the Cub Scout troop at George Washington School and as Neighborhood Commissioner of the Hudson District Fort Orange Uncle Sam Council of the Boy Scouts of America. As a Director of the Troy Chapter of the Junior Chamber of Commerce he participated in the efforts of that organization to have Samuel Wilson of Troy officially recognized as "Uncle Sam". He served as Regional Vice President of the New York State Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of St. John s Episcopal Church where he served as a vestryman and president of the Couples Club. He was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks, Past Master of Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge and the Shriners

As a long time member of the Crescent Boat Club he enjoyed many trips on the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers, Lake Champlain, and Chesapeake Bay. In his later years he enjoyed cruises and visits to many ports in Hawaii, the Caribbean and Europe.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Jane S. Huntley. He was the father of Warren (Winn) E. Huntley III of Troy, Elizabeth H. Huntley of Delmar, Bradford H. Huntley (Erin) of North Smithfield, RI and Matthew W. Huntley (Donna) of Averill Park. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Madison and Julia Huntley and Leah and Connor Huntley.

The Family would like to express our special thanks to the staff in the ICU Unit of the Samaritian Hospital, especially 'Cricket', Melissa and Tracy, for their sincere caring for Warren as well as their professionalism in helping our family through this difficult time.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue in Troy, with Rev. John Kelly, Pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-8 PM.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Warren Huntley Shriners Children's Hospital 516 Carew Street Springfield, MA 01104-2396 or to St. John's Church Garden 146 First Street Troy, NY 12180. The garden at St. John's was designed by Warren's mother and built by his father.
