Virginia C. 'Ginnie' Belemjian, 76

Loudonville - Virginia C. 'Ginnie' Belemjian, 76,of Orchard Grove, died Sunday, December 17, 2006 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Woodside, Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Haig Chekijian and Araxi (Panjarjian) Chekijian and wife for 47 years of Edward A. Belemjian.

She had resided in Troy and Loudonville most of her life and earned her Bachelor's degree from Queens College in New York in 1951 and her Master's from Hunter College.

Mrs. Belemjian was an elementary school teacher in Long Island and East Greenbush and for 15 years was the Director of Volunteer Services at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.

She was an active member of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet, a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, chairperson of the Women's Guild, past President of the Women's Guild Central Council, Past Matron of the Daughters of Vartan and a past New England District Representative of the Daughters of Vartan. She was an active volunteer in many organizations all her life, including the Junior League of Troy, past president of the Illium Literary Club, Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and a life member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union. She was past President of the New York State Association of Directors of Volunteer Services. Ginnie enjoyed time with her family and lived for her grandchildren.

Survivors in addition to her husband include two sons, Dr. Mark E. Belemjian (Rhoda) of Springfield, MA. and David P. Belemjian of Troy; two grandchildren, Jacob E. and Madeline V. Belemjian and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Jack Chekijian of Peabody, MA. and George Chekijian of Riverhead, NY.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church Watervliet with Rev. Stepanos Doudoukjian, Pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. The Daughters of Vartan will conduct services Wednesday at 7pm and St. Peter Church will conduct services at 7:30pm at the funeral home. Interment Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands. Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Belemjian to St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church 100 Troy-Schenectady Road Watervliet, NY 12189.
